Deadman's Island, so named because it was once the site of native burial grounds (and was later used by white settlers for the same purpose), was the subject of much dispute until 1930 when the federal government granted the city a 99-year lease on the island. Deadmans Island consists of a 1.5 kilometer shoreline with breathtaking views of downtown Vancouver and Coal Harbour. The picnic area bbq pit was donated to the island by Arnold Schwarzenegger during his filming of the 2000 motion picture hit "The Sixth Day" at this location.

This July 1st the gates of Deadmans Island will open for this Canada Day rock celebration.
